Since January 2025, thirteen sensor boxes have been measuring the air quality in the Sluizeken-Tolhuis-Ham neighborhood in Ghent. The goal is to monitor air quality in real time and map any differences before and after the opening of the new Verapaz bridge. <\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The sensor boxes, spread throughout the neighborhood, continuously measure the concentration of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a harmful substance that comes mainly from traffic. The Verapaz bridge, which opens mid-July, will drastically change the flow of traffic in the area. The measurements should reveal the impact this change will have on air quality in the neighborhood. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Citizens can consult the measurement via the data portal<\/a> of the Flanders Environment Agency. The final results are expected in a year. <\/p>

Earlier, in 2024, similar measurements were conducted in the Dampoort and Oud-Gentbrugge area, as part of the introduction of the mobility plan<\/a>.
