LIFE CityTRAQ final conference marks four years of collaboration on urban air quality

On 18 June 2026, the LIFE CityTRAQ project held its final conference in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, researchers, city representatives and professionals from across Europe.
After four years of intensive collaboration, research and pilot projects, the conference provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements and share valuable insights on data-driven urban air quality policy.

From data to impact

Throughout the day, participants explored how data and digital tools can support smarter policymaking. The morning sessions focused on key developments in EU air quality policy and demonstrated how tools developed within the project help cities better understand and address local air quality challenges.

Speakers also highlighted the importance of combining different data sources, such as traffic counts and air quality measurements, to identify pollution hotspots and assess the impact of mobility measures.

Interactive exchange and networking
In the afternoon, participants engaged in interactive breakout sessions covering a wide range of topics, including air quality monitoring, citizen science, communication strategies and the use of local data for policymaking.

These sessions fostered discussion and knowledge exchange between experts and practitioners, highlighting the importance of collaboration across disciplines and borders.

Looking ahead
The conference concluded with a shared ambition to continue building on the results of LIFE CityTRAQ.

The LIFE CityTRAQ partnership would like to thank all participants for their active engagement and looks forward to seeing the project’s results further implemented and scaled up across Europe.
